Walking tour through Trier

In almost no other city has the UNESCO placed so many monuments on the list of World Cultural Heritage as in Trier!

The perfect starting point is Trier's famous landmark, the Porta Nigra, the Roman city gate from the 2nd century AD.
In ancient times, portcullises were let down to prevent foreign invaders from coming into the city. Continue from here into the pedestrian zone and pass an architectural masterpiece, the House of the Tree Mage.
The peculiarity - the front door is upstairs!

A bit further on, you reach the medieval Main Market. Here, you really should have a look at the Steipe.
St. Peter's Fountain and the Market Cross also have stories to tell. . . . When you turn left, you will be standing before the oldest German Christian church, Trier Cathedral. Its origins date back to the 4th century, later remodeled many times - all across the centuries. The Robe of Christ, according to legend, is enshrined here. It can be viewed, however, only on very special occasions because it must be protected from light.

When you stand in front of the Cathedral, continue to the right and pass the Gothic Church of Our Lady. Follow this street of the
same name until you come to a major street. Opposite, you will see an imposing structure, the Roman Imperial Throne Room (Basilika), the former audience hall of the Roman Emperor Constantine. Today, it is a Protestant church of enormous dimensions. Believe it or not, the Porta Nigra would fit twice inside the Basilika: Every "box" in the ceiling inside measures 10 x 10 feet (3 x 3 meters).

Opposite the entrance to the church, you climb the stairs and are now standing in front of the beautiful Palace Garden with the Electoral Palace, formerly the residence of the Electoral Prince. Take a walk through the blooming park landscape to the Imperial Baths, built centuries ago as a bath for the Romans.

Now you are nearly at the Golden Tulip Trier.
